What is personal data and why are you collecting mine?

Personal data is information about you. Examples of this include your name, where you live, information about you and your family and sometimes we need to know special information such as health conditions you may have. We need your personal data so that we can register you onto one of play schemes. Having your personal data will help us provide you/your family with the support that best suites you.

Where do you get it from and where is it kept?

We get it from you and your family when you are being registered onto one of our play schemes. We keep your personal data safe and secure, within our secure internal computer system. Only Cardiff Council staff have access to these systems.

Will anyone else see my personal data? How long will you keep it?

Sometimes we need to share your personal data with other organisations. Examples of this are Cardiff and the Vale University Health Board, other departments within Cardiff Council and other external organisations. We only do this if we think there is a good reason.

We won’t keep your information too long – only as long as we need to use it and answer any future questions about it.

Do I need to do anything? Do I have any rights?

No, you don’t need to do anything! When we collect your personal data, we will explain why we need it and what it will be used for so that you are always in the loop.

Yes, you have rights! You can request to view your personal data, change personal data if it is wrong and you have a few more. To understand this more, speak to your parent/guardian or one of the play scheme staff.
