Have your say

We use a variety of methods to consult with children and young people, such as:

  • play session observations
  • listening
  • informal discussions
  • story boards
  • collaborative activities
  • group games
  • online surveys

Consultations also take place within daily play sessions to establish ground rules, activities and gather feedback on resources for future play interests.

We consider all children to be experts in their play. They are able to make decisions about how and when they like to play.

The consultations support our play sufficiency assessment.

Previous Consultations

Cardiff Big Play Survey

The survey was available to all children through:

  • on-line learning platforms in schools,
  • out of school education service,
  • family hostels,
  • gypsy traveller groups,
  • youth groups,
  • hospital play sessions and
  • young carers.

We are working towards tackling barriers to play, such as delivering play sessions in identified areas and developing initiatives such as Play Shacks and Play Streets. These schemes help communities to engage in play opportunities.

Covid questionnaire

The questionnaire for children and young people was carried out in response to the Covid 19 pandemic.  It contained questions relating to:

  • how children felt during lockdown
  • whether their play time had been affected
  • how safe they have felt
  • if they were able to play in their usual areas.

In response to the questionnaire, we were able to map areas of play need and provide play packs to some communities identified. We delivered play sessions in new areas, following all safety guidance in place at the time.
